PONY CLUB AREA 3

Have a go at ENDURANCE

Sponsored by TopSpec

Endurance rides are not just a quiet hack for the happy hacker. They are a real test of your ability to get your horse truly fit and show this by competing in the most testing of activities. By judging  your horses speed over a set distance (anywhere between 5 and 40 kilometres) you will aim to finish the ride with a fit, sound horse, showing as low as heart rate as possible and will follow the route by reading a map and discovering markers.

To help all Area 3 PC members get a feel for Endurance we are again running a training ride at Thorp Perrow,  near Bedale on April 3rd. Learn about the pre-ride and post ride vetting, checking your horse's heart rate, judging your horses speed, cooling your horse down after the ride. The equipment you might need, what rides are available to you, etc etc, and then take part in a short ride of up to 16 km.

This season we are luckily being sponsored by TopSpec and are running a points challenge to be completed at the BWY Pony Club ride at Clifton Castle on the 12th August  and points can be collected at the following rides

29/4     E.G.B.                                      Wykeham                                            20, 32,42km

10/6     E.G.B.                                      Wharncliffe Chase                              27,32,40km.

17/6     E.G.B.                                      Helmesley                                           24,33,42km

17/7     E.G.B.                                      Last of the Summer Wine                   25,32.40km.

12/8     BWY Pony Club                       Clifton Castle                                      17, 29, 42km.

Each ride will be a separate competition and the result will be achieved by those gaining the most points. Prizes to the top 3 places. Rosettes to 6th place. The combination of horse and rider gaining the most points throughout the season (double points available at the final ride at Clifton Castle) will win the Area 3 pony Club Endurance Trophy.

Points can be accumulated by using the following table.                                                                  Every km successfully completed                                                                       1 point             Every 0.1 kph slower than 12kph                                                            Deduct 2 points           Every heart beat faster than 40 beats per min at final vetting Deduct 1point

As you will discover it is not always the fastest horse that will win, but the one that is fittest and best prepared. These rides,  can be used as qualifiers for the national championships.
